Mad Man

My perfect Saturday or Sunday would consist of the following: heading out to breakfast before the brunch crowd does, walking from Surry Hills in to the Botanic Gardens and to the Art Gallery of NSW, spending an hour or two absorbing all of the incredible art that hangs on their white walls and then vegan yum-cha lunch one of the best hidden secret spots in Sydney, Bodhi. If I did this once a month, I would be an impossibly happy human being. And one impossibly happy human I was yesterday when we did just that AND my favourite artist in the whole world/history of time was being exhibited at the gallery! Andy Warhol.

If you're not familiar with Warhol, he was basically the king of pop art, and all art really since the 1960s, in my humble opinion anyway. Warhol took a very commercial approach to art, both in his subject matter, think Campbell's Soup and 60s celebrities, and in business. I find him so fascinating because he was truly unique, unapologetic and prolific.

The current exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, Adman: Warhol before Pop, explores the illustrative advertising work Andy created in the very early stages of his career. Most of the work on display were ink drawings on paper, a lot different to the silk screens he is most famous for, but it was still distinctly Warhol. I have included some of my favourite drawings from the exhibition above. I especially loved the hands holding the flowers! If you're in Sydney whilst this exhibition is on you should definitely go and check it out! And then have lunch at Bodhi. You can thank me later for the A+ recommendation.

Adman: Warhol before Pop is on at the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney, until 28 May 2017

Overall Conundrum

Image via Pinterest

Late last night I was scrolling through Pinterest, as I do, more often then I care to admit, I came across the above photo of this woman in her overalls. At first I thought "I should wear my overalls more often" and "this is a great way to style them" but then I stopped for a second, and thought about the reality of overalls and how difficult and impractical it is to go to the bathroom! It's a mission at the best of times, getting undressed and then dressed again, but they're so comfortable and so worth it when it's not that complicated. I have major respect for this lady who added the extra two steps of taking off a jacket AND a belt before even getting to the overall part. I have bladder envy.

S-TOWN

I have just finished listening to the podcast S-Town by the creators of Serial and This American Life. Like a good book you cannot put down, I could not stop listening to this story. The writing was so beautifully complex and vivid. Listening to host Brian Reed's wonderful story telling, I felt like I was right there with him. Learning and unpacking everything he was seeing and hearing. I won't give any spoilers away other than: you won't regret listening to this and what begins as a murder mystery ends as something completely else...
